History

The Lockheed Sirius first flew in 1929 and was designed by Jack Northrop and Gerard Vultee. The Lindberghs' famous aircraft was a modified Sirius 8A fitted with floats for their Pacific and Atlantic survey flights in the early 1930s. The 8C designation indicated a specific engine or equipment variant.

Variants

Sirius variants were differentiated by engine type (Pratt & Whitney Wasp or Wright Cyclone) and float versus wheeled undercarriage; the 8 series denoted the later refined production standard.
