History

SIAI-Marchetti developed the S.205 family in the mid-1960s as a modern replacement for aging light aircraft in the European market. The 'R' suffix denotes the retractable gear variant, offering improved speed and efficiency over the fixed-gear S.205. Several hundred examples of the S.205 family were built, serving flying clubs and private owners across Europe.

Variants

S.205/18R (180 hp), S.205/20R (200 hp Franklin), S.205/22R (220 hp Franklin); the fixed-gear S.205F ran in parallel.

Where you'll see it

Used widely by Italian aero clubs and private owners from the late 1960s onward. Some examples remain airworthy. The type was also licence-built in small numbers.
