Airbus A319 NEO

Airbus · France · first flew 2017 · airliner

The A319 NEO (New Engine Option) re-engines the A319 with high-bypass turbofans for a 15–20 percent fuel-burn reduction, retaining the same fuselage dimensions as the CEO.

Recognition (WEFT)

W — WingsLow-mounted, swept
E — Engines2 × turbofan, wing-mounted
F — FuselageSame 33.8m fuselage length as A319 CEO but new engine pylons sit slightly further forward due to larger fan diameter
T — TailConventional

WEFT is AircraftIQ's four-point recognition method — how it works.

Spot it by:

Identical fuselage length to A319 CEO but immediately distinguishable by large sharklets and wider-diameter LEAP or GTF engine nacelles; shorter fuselage than A320 NEO or A321 NEO provides the primary size cue versus those siblings.

History

The A319 NEO first flew in March 2017 and entered service with Volotea later that year. It was the slowest-selling of the NEO family, as many operators opted for the larger A320 NEO or A321 NEO to maximise per-trip economics, but it found a niche with carriers needing range flexibility.

Variants

The A319 ACJ NEO (ACJ TwoTwenty) is a long-range business jet derivative offering intercontinental range with cabin customisation.

Where you'll see it

Operated in smaller numbers than its CEO predecessor; key customers include Volotea, IndiGo and several VIP/charter operators. Some airlines deferred or cancelled orders in favour of the A320 NEO.
