WEFT is AircraftIQ's four-point recognition method — how it works.
Spot it by:
- Prominent upturned winglets
- Two underwing turbofans on a low swept wing
- 757-like slim narrow-body fuselage
The clearest cue is the pair of prominent upturned winglets on a low swept wing. Two PS-90A turbofans hang on underwing pylons, giving a silhouette reminiscent of the Boeing 757. The slim narrow-body fuselage is long and clean.

History
Derived from the Tu-204 family, the aircraft first flew in 1996 with uprated PS-90A engines and a strengthened structure. It offered greater range and payload than the baseline model. Production has continued into recent years as a home-grown alternative to Western types.
Variants
Beyond the airliner it forms the basis of many special-mission types, including the Tu-214ON Open Skies observation aircraft, the Tu-214R intelligence platform, and Tu-214PU and SR command-post and presidential machines. Airline versions saw only limited orders.
Where you'll see it
Civil use has been modest, with operators such as Transaero and Rossiya, and no UK relevance. Its greater significance is as a Russian government and military special-mission airframe. Production has been revived to offset sanctions on imported airliners.
