The Airbus A220-300 is a modern single-aisle airliner with a five-abreast cabin, originally developed by Bombardier as the CSeries before Airbus took over the programme.

Look for the slim fuselage with a slightly pointed nose, large engines relative to the airframe, and a tall, gently swept fin. The clean composite wing has a graceful upward sweep at the tips.

History
First flown as the Bombardier CS300 in 2015, the aircraft struggled commercially under Bombardier before Airbus acquired a majority stake in 2018 and rebranded it the A220-300. Its advanced Pratt & Whitney geared turbofans give it excellent efficiency on regional and short-haul routes.
Variants
The shorter A220-100 (formerly CS100) seats around 100 to 120 passengers, while the larger -300 carries up to roughly 160. Both share the same wing, systems and clean-sheet design.
Where you'll see it
Several carriers operate the A220 into UK airports, and the type appears at Heathrow and Gatwick on European services; it is a familiar modern narrowbody for British travellers though not yet a UK flag-carrier mainstay.
